Did the title bother you? It should. We are in a world of shit.
Here we are standing at the abyss of a cataclysmic change in our atmosphere and oceans, scratching our heads and wondering ‘how did we get here?’ It’s all pretty easy to explain. The human race has managed to put itself on a non-reversible course in killing our planet.
Growing up, we had all the intentions of saving our earth - recycling was a big thing. Earth Day was invented. Back in the 60-70’s we really didn’t have much plastic to recycle, but we had paper. In the 70’s, we thought our planet was in jeopardy. That was saying a lot back then. Plastic evolved post war to throw-away items, and this started the incredible rise of PET polymers - take-out containers and other plastics that we don’t think about. As we marched to the horrifying situation today, we shake our heads but continue with the plastics abuse simply because we’re creatures of habit. Single use plastics has exploded to levels that cannot be wrangled no matter how hard we try.
Plastics are in the landfills that won’t break down for thousands of years
Plastics are in the air as nano dust
Plastics are in our oceans as micro plastics.
EVERY. SINGLE. ORGANISM carries micro plastics or has been exposed. Let that sink in.
While we watch our current administration devalue human lives, gut climate regulations, start wars and a myriad of other distractions, it is ignoring the important things. Can we survive as a human race? Maybe. But it’s going to cost us. Bigly
